HARRISBURG – Over $367,000 in grants were awarded to fire and emergency services companies in the 111th Legislative District, according to Rep. Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne).

Companies in Susquehanna County received $225,000 and companies in Wayne County received $142,000 as part of the annual grant program which is initiated through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.

“We are fortunate to have hundreds of local residents who willingly give their time to serve in our area fire and emergency service companies,” said Fritz. “These grant funds provide critical assistance to make sure our first responders can continue to help our community in such an important way.”

The Fire Company/Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program was initiated in 2000 and is funded by gaming revenue. The program is open to all fire companies, volunteer ambulance services and volunteer rescue squads in Pennsylvania. Grant awards can be used for construction or repair of facilities, purchase or repair of equipment, debt reduction and training.
