$12,000 in Grants Awarded to Wayne, Pike and Monroe Counties, Say Brown, Fritz, Peifer

December 3, 2020

HARRISBURG – Reps. Rosemary Brown (R-Monroe), Jonathan Fritz (R-Wayne/Susquehanna) and Mike Peifer (R-Pike/Wayne) announced today that Wayne County and Pike County historical societies, as well as the Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm (located in Monroe County), were each awarded $4,000 in state funds from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC).

The goal of cultural and historical support grants is to strengthen Pennsylvania’s museum community by supporting the general operations of eligible museums and official county historical societies that are not supported by other state agency funding programs.

“Preserving the history of our Commonwealth, as well as the history of our nation, is vital to help educate our children and future generations of past events and how they influenced the world we live in today,” said Brown. “This funding allows these historical societies and Quiet Valley to continue to keep their doors open and provide this valuable information.”

“This is great news for Wayne County,” said Fritz. “Our museums allow our communities to stay connected with the past and learn valuable lessons to help better prepare for the future. I am pleased that the Wayne County Historical Society is able to benefit from these funds, especially during these difficult times.”

“Seeing the hardships that our Commonwealth has experienced this year, I am glad to see that Pike and Wayne County Historical Societies received this grant which gives them the ability to still serve our communities and offer additional learning opportunities to our children,” said Peifer.

The PHMC is the official history agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Created in 1945, it is responsible for the collection, conservation and interpretation of Pennsylvania's historic heritage, which is accomplished through the Pennsylvania State Archives, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Trails of History (historic sites and museums), the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office and the Bureau of Management Services.
