Wayne County Historical Society to Receive Over $2,000 for Archival Preservation Training Session, Says Fritz

HONESDALE – Rep. Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) announced today that the Wayne County Historical Society will receive a $2,538 Historical & Archival Records Care Grant (HARC), which will assist the historical society in hosting an archival preservation training session.

“Having the ability to preserve historical items is essential in protecting the story of our past” said Fritz. “By introducing area historians to new, modern preservation techniques it will allow for current and future artifacts to be available for generations to come and be used as educational tools for our youth.”

This funding will be put toward a free “archival preservation” training session, hosted by the Wayne County Historical Society, with an invite extended to representatives from all county historical organizations. During the training the archival materials purchased with this grant money will be exhibited and the best practices of archival storage will be demonstrated. Materials will be shared with those attending.

The HARC Awards will improve the preservation and accessibility of historically significant records maintained by local governments, historical societies and academic institutions. Projects will include initiatives such as: digitization, including conversion of permanent local-government records to PDF/A; arranging, describing and rehousing collections into appropriate formats, containers, and environments; and disaster planning.
