Rural Broadband to be Focus of Legislative Hearing at Elk Lake
WHAT: Citing the lack of rural broadband as an impediment to economic development and educational opportunities, Reps. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) and Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) will host the House Majority Policy Committee for a legislative hearing on Thursday, April 5.

Led by House Majority Policy Committee Chairman Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin), testifiers at the hearing will inform legislators about ways in which the absence of high-speed internet access is holding back local economies, provide an update on the long-range plans of providers and discuss emerging technologies that could help solve the problem.

The public is welcome to attend. Prior to the start of the hearing, members of the public will be required to check in at the school’s office for a visitor’s pass.

WHO: Benninghoff, Pickett, Fritz, Boback and legislators from across the state.

Testifiers will include: Chris Brown, Central Bradford Progress Authority; Laurel Mueller, Soil Services; Loren Stone and Bradley Adleman, Endless Mountains Health Systems Inc.; Joseph Adams, Wayne County commissioner; Dennis Ford, Wayne County government; Brian Barno, Broadband Cable Association of PA; Frank Buzydlowski, Verizon; and Jay Summerson, Microsoft.
