CFA and UGI Cover Full Cost of Wayne County Distribution Pipeline Project, Says Fritz
May 22, 2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) announces that the Wayne Economic Development Corporation has been awarded $376,392 in Pipeline Investment Program funds from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) and matching funds from UGI Utilities to install a distribution pipeline. The pipeline will run throughout Waymart Borough and portions of Canaan Township, Wayne County. The total project cost is $752,784.
“This pipeline project has been in the works for some time now and I am pleased to see that Canaan Township and Waymart residents will soon have access to natural gas,” said Fritz. “Having natural gas available to these communities offers them a cost-saving option along with encouraging more workforce development opportunities and economic growth within Wayne County. Thank you to the Commonwealth Financing Authority and UGI Utilities for helping bring this project to the finish line.”
This proposal includes installing 5,635 feet of natural gas pipeline along State Route 296, Honesdale Road, and to Railroad Lane in Canaan Township and Waymart Borough. The project will serve an estimated 47 residential parcels, two churches, and eight businesses, along State Route 296, including 29 acres of developable land and the Waymart Area Authority.
The project would be completed in conjunction with another recently approved PIPE project.
The Pipeline Investment Program (PIPE) provides grants to construct the last few miles of natural gas distribution lines to business parks, existing manufacturing and industrial enterprises, which will result in the creation of new economic base jobs in the Commonwealth while providing access to natural gas for residents.
